By combining computer vision, math, and artistic talent, we designed an algorithm that can replicate any image into a Desmos graph.

How it Works

The process begins by uploading an image to our website. The algorithm then highlights the edges within the drawing, making it possible for a tracing library called Potrace to trace the lines. This is followed by processing the image through a computer vision algorithm called Sobel edge detection, which uses convolutions and a Gaussian filter.

Next, the algorithm finds the curve equations that replicate the image, before outputting a Desmos graph version of the original drawing. The result is an intricate graphing art piece that showcases the user's creativity. To take it to the next level, we also include the exact equations of the curves and lines, allowing users to replicate the image themselves using Desmos.
